Breaks
Twm Sion Jones 45 (Fairwater Cons)
The line-up for the League Cup semi-finals is confirmed after a very tight finish as the top 4 places have been decided, following four rounds of group matches.
Macky Misfits finish top of the group with a resounding 5-0 win at Roath Cons to seal a home semi-final derby against fourth placed Mackintosh Snooker, and Satinder Singh got them off to the perfect start with a comfortable victory over Chris Harding. Jacob Boyle made it 2-0 as he edged a high-scoring frame on the black against Tony Storer, before Bill Bainton won the third singles frame versus Lee Cornock on the colours. The doubles frame was also close as Richard Duggan and William Eades defeated Andrew Champion and Alan Wright on the colours to complete the whitewash for the Misfits.
Joining them with a home semi-final after finishing second are Fairwater Cons, as last year’s winners won 3-2 at Canton Libs to maintain their title defence. A 45 break from Twm Sion Jones ensured he won the opener against Luke Haines, before Dan Bridle’s comfortable victory over Rory Wigmore made it 2-0. Luke Pitman defeated James Wigmore on the colours to clinch the match for Fairwater, but Wigmore and Tony Chick won the doubles frame against Shaun O’Connell and Steve Flanagan to leave the Libs just a point off a top four spot.
Canton Warriors won 4-1 at County Cons to secure third place on games won, but had to come from behind as Dave Earls won the opening singles frame against Jason Veal. Chris Richards’ win on the colours versus Ryan Bowgen made it 1-1, before Andy Holman put the Warriors ahead after defeating Martyn Evans. The match was decided on the doubles frame though as Dave Richards and Mike Watts teamed up to comfortably beat Earls and John Hicks to seal the Warriors’ place in the semi-finals.
Mackintosh Snooker’s 3-2 win over Rumney British Legion gave them the final spot in the semi-finals on a superior head-to-head record as both sides finished level on points, wins and singles frames won. Wins for Carlo Schiazza over Paul Chichester and Nathan Dunne against Andy McGill gave the Mack a 2-0 lead, before Mike Nessbert beat Ethan Chichester on the colours to win the match, but McGill and Paul Chichester combined to win an entertaining doubles frame on a respotted black against Schiazza and Dunne to claim a consolation two points and finish fifth in the table.
Taff’s Well beat Caerphilly A 4-1 with Jimmy Llewellyn defeating Nural Khan on the black in a high-scoring, entertaining opening frame before a fine potting display and a 30 break saw Ian Denton level the match with a win over Justin Jones. Glyn Jones had a walkover in the next before he teamed up with Kevin Brown for the doubles frame against Khan and Denton, with the Taff’s Well captain dominating proceedings with fluent potting to seal the win for his side.
