Caerphilly A are the 2025-26 CDSA Premier League winners after an extraordinary season ended with a final frame decider as they won 3-2 at title rivals Fairwater Cons.
The match began with one of the frames of the season as Twm Sion Jones faced Allan Morgan, with Jones starting strongly with two breaks of 20-plus putting him 35 ahead with three reds remaining. However, after a couple of snookers, Morgan had a chance with two reds left and a brilliant clearance followed as he potted the black, but the white agonisingly went in-off to give Fairwater a dramatic lead. Nural Khan started the next frame strongly to open up a 24 lead, but a good chance for Dan Bridle saw him reduce the deficit until a missed black gave Khan a chance and a very good 42 break sealed the win and drew Caerphilly level. Two Cardiff Open winners faced off in the next frame as excellent potting and solid matchplay saw Jason Hewett comfortably beat Khurram Khan to leave the champions one frame from victory.
An incredible match continued as the two players vying for the individual rankings title were drawn against each other as unbeaten Terry Garland went head-to-head with Steffan Davies to decide who would be crowned Player of the Year. With the match on a knife-edge the atmosphere was very tense, but Davies held himself together for a tremendous 42 break to seal the frame and take the match to a decider between Shaun O’Connell and Ben Griffiths. After an unbelievable second half to the season which saw Fairwater close a huge gap to edge ahead, it was left to the Caerphilly captain Griffiths who won the frame with breaks of 28 and 38 and with it clinch the title of CDSA Premier League champions for his side. Congratulations to both teams for a brilliant race for the title and fittingly it finished on the last frame of the league season.
Macky Misfits are Division One champions after a 4-1 derby win against Mackintosh Snooker, but a close win for Jerry Connors against William Eades saw them 1-0 behind after the opening frame. Steve Wellbeloved’s black ball win over Eassa Din drew the Misfits level before Bill Bainton’s win on the colours against Carlo Schiazza put them ahead. Satinder Singh’s defeat of Mike Nessbert sealed the win and Jacob Boyle completed an excellent night’s work for his team with victory over Nathan Dunne to give them the title.
County Cons finish in the runners-up spot as they lost 4-1 at Taff’s Well, with a 31 break from Rhys Carpenter enough to win the opening frame against Dave Earls to put the hosts ahead. Ryan Bowgen quickly made it 1-1 thanks to a superb 65 break, missing the last red when a 100 clearance looked likely, but Glyn Jones restored Taff’s Well’s lead after he edged a closely-fought frame against Martyn Evans to win on the black. A very good blue followed by the pink from Jimmy Llewellyn sealed the victory as he won a scrappy fourth frame versus Suhayb Din, before fluent potting from Rob Hayes saw him comfortably win the final frame against Dave Standage as Taff’s Well finish the season in fourth place.
Rumney British Legion finish third in Division One after a 3-2 win over Roath Cons, but they had to come from behind after Justin Behnan lost the opener to Andrew Champion on the black. Albert Columbo levelled the match after he defeated Alan Wright, before a comfortable win for Glyn Hayes over Joe Browse made it 2-1. Tony Storer’s victory against Paul Chichester took the match to a decider which was won by Ethan Chichester against Rob Reid.
Canton Warriors won the derby against Canton Libs as Chris Johnson beat James Wigmore in the opening frame to give them a 1-0 lead. Wins for Rory Wigmore against Simon Takata and Ronnie Allen versus Dave Richards saw the Libs take the lead, before a 31 break from Andy Holman against Tony Chick drew the Warriors level and their victory was sealed as Mike Watts had a walkover in the final frame.
