Congratulations to Ben Griffiths after he beat Jacob Boyle 4-1 at Fairwater Conservative Club to win the 2025-26 Cardiff Open Singles title. The Caerphilly A captain was looking to go one step further after losing last year’s final and he finished the competition by winning a very impressive 15/16 frames in six matches, including wins over former Open Singles winners Khurram Khan and Jason Hewett.

The opening frame saw Boyle get the first chance but a missed black after awkward queueing left Griffiths in and he took advantage with a 30 break, before sealing the frame on the colours, but Boyle hit back in the second frame to win on the colours and level the match at 1-1.

The next frame proved to be pivotal as a 24 break gave Griffiths an early lead before a tremendous 59 break from Boyle ensuring he had the advantage with four reds remaining. Very good safety play from both players took the frame to the colours before an excellent pink followed by the black saw Griffiths edge it and take a 2-1 lead. With the momentum now in his favour, Griffiths sensed his opportunity and very good matchplay and excellent safety saw him take control to win the frame and leave himself one frame from victory. Griffiths has had an excellent season with a league and cup double and he finished the season in style with a comfortable win in the fifth frame to seal a 4-1 win and title of Cardiff Open Singles champion.
