Market Street A remain at the top of the Premier League after they backed up their impressive opening day performance last week with a 4-1 win at home to Cathays Sports. Adrian Webber won the first frame versus Alan Wright, before Paul Stuart Torrie comfortably beat Chris Harding to double their lead. Tony Storer pulled one back for Cathays after a display of good potting and positional play against Mike Sherrin, but a solid performance from Craig Hellinger sealed the win for Market Street after he defeated Joe Browse. The frame of the night saw Lee Cornock maintain a lead against Colin Harding as they headed towards the colours, but a great blue and pink took it to the black and Harding sank it to clinch the frame and make it two wins from two for the newcomers.

Rumney British Legion’s excellent start to the season continued as they are the only other side who have registered back-to-back wins as they moved into second place following a 3-2 win at home to Macky Misfits. However, they found themselves behind early on after William Eades beat Paul Chichester, but a 32 break from Ben Harding saw him defeat Steve Wellbeloved to make it 1-1. A close win for Carl Galloway against Renato Ridoloni moved Rumney 2-1 ahead, before a 36 break from Ethan Chichester saw him comfortably beat Richard Duggan to complete the win, but Graeme Prance’s victory over Andy McGill reduced the deficit for the Misfits.

Last year’s top two produced a classic at Caerphilly as they fought back from 2-0 down to beat title rivals Fairwater 3-2, as a fantastic performance from Twm Sion Jones against Khurram Khan in the opening frame was capped off with a 35 clearance. Jason Hewett made it 2-0 after some fluent potting on the colours saw him defeat Owen Fear, before a pivotal third frame saw Steffan Davies pull one back versus Terry Garland on the pink after both players had chances to win it. A very solid performance from Shaun O’Connell saw him take control of the next frame against Nurul Khan, but Khan stayed in contention and an excellent long pink followed by the black saw him pinch it to take it to a decider. It looked like Luke Pitman was going to seal the win for Fairwater as an early 33 break saw him build a good lead over Ben Griffiths, but the Cardiff Open champion hit back on the colours with some superb safety play leading to penalty points and he finished the frame with blue and pink to seal the victory for his side.

Mackintosh Snooker are in third place despite losing 3-2 at County Cons, but a 51 break from Jerry Connors got them off to the perfect start against John Hicks, before Ryan Bowgen levelled things after defeating Carlos Schiazza. Mackintosh moved 2-1 ahead thanks to Eassa Din’s win over Dave Earls, but captain David Standage restored parity after beating Michael Nessbert and Gary Prosser completed the excellent comeback for County with victory over Nathan Dunne.

Taff’s Well slip to fourth place as they lost 3-2 at Macky Cuesaders, with an excellent opening frame win for Jacob Boyle as he chalked up breaks of 43 and 33 to beat Jimmy Llewellyn. Rob Baker defeated Rhys Carpenter thanks to a 32 break which saw him win a close frame on the colours, before Logan Rawlings comfortably beat Glyn Jones to make it 3-0. Justin Jones got Taff’s Well on the board as he won his frame against Ronnie Allen on the colours and Kevin Brown made it a positive finish to the match for side after his win over Nigel Blackwell.

Canton Warriors won their derby match against Canton Libs to register their first win of the season, with Nick Davies winning the opener against James Wigmore. Simon Takata made it 2-0 after defeating Dave Whitcombe, before Ian Denton reduced the deficit after he beat Chris Johnson. Andy Holman then had a walkover against Rory Wigmore and Dave Richards completed a very good result for the Warriors after a close win against Tony Chick in the final frame.
