The CDSA returned with a bang this week after the Christmas break with Nural Khan producing the individual highlight of the season with a superb 101 clearance to beat Jason Hewett and inflict the first defeat for last season’s player of the year. It was the first century of the season and gave the Warriors the perfect start, but Alan Hurley’s defeat of Jason Veal drew the Mack level. Simon Takata restored the Warriors’ lead after he beat Khurram Khan, before Ronnie Allen’s win against Mike Watts took it to a decider with Geoff Sheppard beating Brian Rees to seal the victory for his side.
Canton Libs took advantage of Fairwater’s defeat after they beat Roath Cons 3-2, with Ed Topham maintaining his good form with victory over Andrew Champion. Luke Haines then made it 2-0 with a win over Kerri Whiting, but Clive Marsh pulled one back after he beat James Facey. James Wigmore made sure of the win after defeating Rob Reid, but Lee Cornock won the final frame for Roath with a win against Tony Chick.
Fairwater Cons are back in the title race with a resounding 5-0 win over Rumney British Legion to move joint-second in the Premier League. Rob McKenna maintained his 100% record after he beat Paul Chichester, before Terry Garland’s win over Alex Ellis doubled their lead. Shaun O’Connell made it 3-0 after victory over Graeme Prance, before they completed the whitewash with wins for Steffan Davies and Steve Flanagan against Tony Parkin and Andy Magill respectively.
Taff’s Well have moved to within three points of Fairwater Cons Mack at the top, after a 4-1 home victory against The Cons. Rhys Carpenter won the opening frame against Mike Rathkey, before a 39 break from Ian Purnell won a closely-fought frame versus Dan Wardle. Dave Earls moved into second place in the individual rankings with a win in the next, but Jimmy Llewellyn was unfortunate to snooker himself on the pink and then go in-off with the escape to give Earls the chance to win it on the black. Glyn Jones sealed the win for Taff’s Well after beating Martyn Evans in an entertaining frame, before Rob Hayes comfortably beat Darren Gill in the fifth.
The Division One title race looks like being an exciting one and Caerphilly Cons’ 4-1 win over leaders Mackintosh Snooker ensured they closed the gap, with Chris Garwood winning the opener against Nathan Dunne. Dan Bridle’s win in the next frame kept up his 100% record, before Mike Pardoe kept up his impressive form with victory over Craig Bolton. Mike Nessbert pulled one back for the Mack after winning against Dai Berkinshaw, but Ciaran Paul won the final frame to complete a good evening for Caerphilly.
