Taff’s Well have moved to the top of the Premier League after they registered a 5-0 away win to Roath Cons in Week 4 of the CDSA season. Rhys Carpenter’s defeat of Andrew Champion put them 1-0 ahead, before Glyn Jones beat Alan Wright to double their lead and Ian Purnell sealed the win after his victory over Clive Marsh. The highlight of a scrappy fourth frame was an excellent brown-to-black clearance by Jimmy Llewellyn which made it 4-0, with captain Kevin Brown’s potting too much for Lee Cornock as he finished off a very good night’s work for his side.
The top three have opened up a slight gap at the top at this early stage and Fairwater Cons are in joint-second after they won 3-2 away to Macky Misfits. Twm Sion Jones won a high-quality frame on the black against Satinder Singh after overhauling a 35-point deficit, and Terry Garland made it 2-0 with a comfortable victory over Renato Ridolini. The Misfits joining the league has meant a welcome return to the CDSA for Steve Wellbeloved, and his excellent form continued after a very good clearance saw him defeat Dan Bridle to reduce the deficit. Another returning stalwart drew his side level as excellent potting from Bill Bainton saw him clinch his frame versus Luke Pitman on the colours, but Steve Flanagan held his nerve in the decider against Jacob Boyle to finish off an entertaining match.
Joining Fairwater in second-place are Caerphilly A but they had to come from 2-0 behind to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against Canton Libs. Luke Haines beat Cardiff Open champion Khurram Khan in the opener with Declan Callaghan’s win over Allan Jones giving them the lead, but the pivotal frame was next as Dave Hartnell won a closely-fought contest against James Wigmore. Steffan Davies levelled the match on the colours against Dave Whitcombe, before captain Ben Griffiths’ win over Tony Chick made sure of the points for his side.
The highest-scoring frame of the season so far took place at Rumney British Legion as Ben Harding beat Taff’s Well Warriors’ Chris Johnson 91-71 in their opening frame. It was followed by the individual performance of the week as a 48 break from Paul Chichester was enough for him to defeat Luke Sheppard to make it 2-0. Jason Veal reduced the deficit as he defeated Glyn Hayes in the third, before Ethan Chichester’s close win over Mike Watts made sure of the victory for Rumney and Andy McGill made it 4-1 after beating Dave Richards in the final frame.
The week’s league cup match saw County Cons take on Mackintosh Snooker with Ryan Bowgen winning the first singles frame against Callum Jones, before Carlos Schiazza clinched the second in dramatic fashion on the black versus Dan Wardle to level the match. Darren Gill put County back ahead with a win over Mike Nessbert, but Mackintosh won the match after Nathan Dunne and Eassa Din defeated Suhayb Din and Darren Gill in the doubles frame.
