Fairwater Extend Premier League Lead

Breaks

Khurram Khan 36 (Caerphilly A)
Rhys Carpenter 35 (Taff’s Well)

Fairwater Cons have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League after a resounding 5-0 win over Canton Libs saw them move five points ahead of title rivals Caerphilly A. Twm Sion Jones won the opening frame against Luke Haines which featured a 32 break, before Jason Hewett made it 2-0 with a win over Declan O’Callaghan thanks to a break of 34. Terry Garland’s contribution of 33 saw him beat James Wigmore and wins for Dan Bridle and Steve Flanagan against Ronnie Allen and Tony Chick respectively, completed an excellent night’s work for their team.

Caerphilly A remain in close contention though as they beat Rumney British Legion 4-1, and with a game in hand on Fairwater, Ben Griffiths’ side look set to take the title race all the way. Allan Morgan won the first frame against Tony Parkin before Nural Khan doubled their lead after comfortably defeating Ethan Chichester. A break of 36 helped Khurram Khan win against Paul Chichester in the next, but Ben Harding pulled one back after beating Steffan Davies before captain Griffiths finished things off with victory over Glyn Hayes.

Mackintosh Snooker moved to the top of Division One after they defeated Taff’s Well Warriors 4-1 with Eassa Din beating Simon Takata in the opener. Carlos Schiazza’s good form continued as he won against Dave Richards, before Billy Connors sealed the win for his side after beating Jason Veal. Mike Nessbert then made it 4-0 after defeating Andy Holman but Chris Johnson’s win over Nathan Dunne gave his side a consolation frame.

Macky Misfits slip into second place after a 4-1 defeat away to County Cons, with Dan Wardle beating Jacob Boyle in the first frame, before Graeme Prance levelled the match with a win over Suhayb Din. Darren Gill’s win on the colours against Steve Wellbeloved restored County’s lead before Dave Standage made it 3-1 after he beat Renato Ridolini, and Dave Earls won the final frame with victory on the black against Deepak Singh.

The League Cup match saw Taff’s Well move to the top of the table after their three-man team defeated Roath Cons 4-1. Rhys Carpenter won a high-quality opening frame against Rob Baker, making a 35 break to open an early lead. However, some very good potting from Baker took the frame to the colours but a missed blue gave Carpenter the chance to pot blue and pink and seal the frame. A fine display of long potting saw Phil Storer win the next frame on the pink against Jimmy Llewellyn, before Glyn Jones produced a very good comeback against Lee Cornock to overturn an early lead to make it 2-1. The match was decided on the doubles frame as Carpenter and Jones paired up to win the frame and give their team an excellent chance of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the semi-finals.
