Fairwater Extend Premier League Lead

Breaks

Nural Khan 38 (Caerphilly A)

Fairwater Cons are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 4-1 win at home to County Cons extended their lead, albeit having played a game more than Caerphilly A in second place. Twm Sion Jones won the opener against Mike Rathkey on the colours after being 30 points behind early on, before Terry Garland’s close win over Dan Wardle moved him to the top of the individual rankings. Dan Bridle made it 3-0 against Dave Standage courtesy of a high number of fouls conceded, but Darren Gill pulled one back on the black against Shaun O’Connell, before Dave Earls was unfortunate to go in-off the brown against Luke Pitman in the final frame.

Caerphilly A maintained their remarkable unbeaten record in the league this season as they defeated Macky Misfits 3-2 to stay in touch with Fairwater, and they made a good start when Allan Jones beat Steve Wellbeloved in the opening frame. A 38 break from Nural Khan was enough to see him defeat Jacob Boyle to make it 2-0, before Bill Bainton reduced the deficit with a win over Ben Griffiths. Steffan Davies sealed the win after a black-ball frame against Satinder Singh, but Graeme Prance won a close final frame for the Misfits against Ian Denton.

Mackintosh Snooker look heavy favourites to defend their Division One title after a 3-2 win at home to Roath Cons saw them move eight points clear of the Misfits and with a game in hand, but they had to come from behind as Alan Wright beat Harrison Fry in the first frame. Carlos Schiazza maintained his very good individual form as he beat Tony Storer, before Phil Storer restored Roath’s lead against Billy Connors. Eassa Din then levelled the match with victory over Rob Reid, before Nathan Dunne won a tight decider versus Andrew Champion to give the Mack the win.

Canton Libs got back to winning ways after they won 3-2 at Taff’s Well Warriors, with Luke Haines beating Nick Davies in the opening frame. Jason Veal won the next against Ed Topham on the black, before Andy Holman put the Warriors 2-1 ahead after he defeated Rory Wigmore. James Wigmore then made it 2-2 after beating Dave Richards on the colours, before another close frame saw Tony Chick win the match for Canton with victory over Simon Takata.

In the League Cup, Taff’s Well remain in contention for a semi-final spot, despite losing 3-2 away to Rumney British Legion whose own chances of qualifying are now over after completing their four matches. Rhys Carpenter won the opening frame against Ben Harding who unfortunately went in-off the black after a fine comeback took the frame all the way, and Glyn Jones made it 2-0 with victory over Alex Ellis. Tony Parkin defeated Rob Hayes on the pink which meant the match hinged on the doubles frame between Ethan Chichester and Andy McGill who faced Carpenter and Kevin Brown, with the Rumney pairing holding on to an early lead to win on the pink.
