Breaks

Kevin Brown 49 (Taff’s Well)
Jason Hewett 41 (Fairwater Cons)
Dan Bridle 39 (Fairwater Cons)
Rob Hayes 36 (Taff’s Well)
Nural Khan 36 (Caerphilly A)

Fairwater Cons’ pursuit of the Premier League title suffered a blow this week as they lost 3-2 at Taff’s Well to record only their second league defeat of the season. A high-quality opening frame saw Rhys Carpenter beat Twm Sion Jones on the colours, before Dan Bridle’s 39 clearance to the black levelled the match against Tom Cross. A potting masterclass from Jason Hewett, which featured breaks of 31 and 41 saw him to victory over Jimmy Llewellyn, before Kevin Brown moved to the top of the individual rankings following his defeat of Shaun O’Connell, which featured a well-constructed 49 break that looked like being more until he was unfortunate to pot the black and go in-off. The decider was a repeat of the reverse league match earlier this season, but this time the result was different as a 36 break from Rob Hayes saw him beat Steve Flanagan and clinch the win for Taff’s Well.

Caerphilly A took full advantage of Fairwater’s slip-up as they won 5-0 away to Roath Cons to cut the gap to their title rivals to four points, with a game in hand and a possible league decider in the penultimate match of the season. Steffan Davies won the opening frame against Andrew Champion, before Khurram Khan doubled their lead after beating Rob Reid. Ben Griffiths won a closely-fought frame to make it 3-0, before Allan Jones defeated Alan Wright and Nural Khan’s break of 36 was enough complete the whitewash against Lee Cornock.

Mackintosh Snooker moved a step closer to the Division One title as they won 3-2 at County Cons, but they had to come from 2-0 down after Darren Gill beat Billy Connors and Ryan Bowgen defeated Carlos Schiazza. Captain Mike Nessbert started the comeback as he beat Dan Wardle and Eassa Din drew his side level with victory over Dave Earls, before Nathan Dunne won the decider against Suhayb Din to seal the win for the Mack.

Macky Misfits managed to gain a point on their title rivals though as they won 4-1 at home to Rumney British Legion, with Mo Dharamashi winning the opening frame versus Alex Ellis. Jacob Boyle extended the Misfits’ lead after defeating Paul Chichester, before Satinder Singh made it 3-0 after beating Ben Harding. Ethan Chichester pulled one back following his win over Steve Wellbeloved, but Bill Bainton completed a very good result with victory over Tony Parkin.

The semi-final line-up for the League Cup looks like it will go to the final match as several sides remain in contention for a top four spot. One of those sides is Canton Libs as they moved into fourth place with a game in hand on many sides around them with a 4-1 win over Taff’s Well Warriors, but they had to come from behind after Jacob Veal’s win in the opening singles match against Luke Haines. A crucial black-ball frame was won by Ronnie Allen versus Dave Richards to level the match, before James Wigmore’s close win over Andy Holman gave his side a 2-1 lead. Like most League Cup matches this season, it would be decided on the doubles frame though, with Wigmore and Tony Chick beating Chris Johnson and Geoff Sheppard to complete a good night’s work for Canton.
