Fairwater Cons are favourites for the CDSA 2024-25 Premier League title after they produced an amazing comeback at Caerphilly A to put themselves into prime position in the table, as this incredible title race nears completion.
Rob McKenna had given Caerphilly A the perfect start, with a 35 break contributing to his win over Dan Bridle, before Khurram Khan’s defeat of Terry Garland saw them move 2-0 ahead and one frame away from a crucial victory. The third frame saw two of the outstanding players in the league go head-to-head as Nural Khan faced Jason Hewett, with CDSA legend Hewett pulling one back for Fairwater. Twm Sion Jones then took the match to a decider after defeating Steffan Davies with both sides knowing the bonus point for winning would give either one a two-point advantage with one match remaining, and it was Luke Pitman who beat Ben Griffiths to give Fairwater the victory and inflict the first league defeat of the season on their title rivals.
Mackintosh Snooker are Division One champions after County Cons failed to register the victory they needed to close the gap away to Taff’s Well Warriors. Ryan Bowgen won the first for the Cons against Dave Richards, before Andy Holman’s win over Mike Rathkey, and Jason Veal’s defeat of Suhayb Din put the Warriors ahead. Handicap Singles finalist Nick Davies sealed the win after beating Dan Wardle, before Geoff Sheppard finished things off with a win over Dave Standage.
Taff’s Well’s Kevin Brown is the CDSA 2024-25 Player of the Year as his win against Andy McGill in his side’s 3-2 defeat at Rumney British Legion gave him an unassailable lead at the top of the individual rankings. Rumney dominated the early frames though as Paul Chichester beat Rhys Carpenter and a 40 break from Ethan Chichester doubled their lead against Jimmy Llewellyn. Ben Harding made it 3-0 after defeating Glyn Jones on the colours, before Brown’s win reduced the deficit and Rob Hayes won the final frame for Taff’s Well versus Tony Parkin.
Canton Libs won 4-1 against Roath Cons with Luke Haines registering the highest break of the week with a 45 to defeat Tony Storer, before James Wigmore’s win over Andrew Champion doubled their lead. Ronnie Allen’s victory against Rob Reid and Tony Chick’s defeat of Alan Wright made it 4-0 before Lee Cornock’s walkover gave Roath a consolation frame.
The line-up for the semi-final of the League Cup has yet to be decided, but the Macky Misfits have given themselves a great chance of qualifying after beating neighbours Mackintosh Snooker 4-1 to leave themselves needing two points in their final match against Roath to be certain of a last-four spot. However, they had to come from behind as Eassa Din won the opener despite Jacob Boyle’s 36 break. Bill Bainton won a close second frame against Billy Connors to level the match, before Satinder Singh’s win over Nathan Dunne put the Misfits ahead. The outcome of the match hinged on the result of the doubles frame, but Boyle and Singh won it against Carlos Schiazza and Mike Nessbert to seal a very good win and move them into joint-fourth in the table.
