Savoy stretch lead on final black as challengers fail to materialise

The Premier League lead stays with the Barry Boys from Savoy, but their main challengers are no nearer to revealing themselves. Former Tuesday champions Fairwater look to have the same squad as last year, and every chance of repeating their title triumphs of past seasons, after a 3-2 win over Trecenydd, marked by a break of 56 by Travis Furnish, and 38 from Jon Dobson, but County Cons, still scraping teams together each week, are only behind by virtue of wins.

One of the performances of the week in terms of results was surely that of the Mackintosh A side, who hammered the enigmatic Canton team, while Gary Bennett assures me that a lack of match practice is working wonders for him at Park Cons, and sure enough, he hit a stunning break of 43 in his side’s only frame this week. Mackintosh A are now starting to live up to their billing as their venue’s A side, while a quirk of the league table sees South Wales Snooker with another win, putting them ahead of Park in the wins column, but not in the points column, where it matters. Eight points separate second and ninth placed teams, and still we wait to see who can chase down Savoy, whose Tuesday win on the final black meant they avoided successive defeats.

The rankings see Mark Bennett, Rhys Carpenter, and Jason Hewett clear at the top, as Sam Thomas and Chris Richards lost for the first time this week.
