Stunning win by Fairwater takes title to final week but Savoy need just two frames to win it

It’s so near, but yet so far for Savoy at the top of the Premier League. We believe they have never won the Cardiff and District Snooker League, but a superb result and superb performance from Fairwater at home to County meant the league is still theoretically up for grabs in the final week. To win, Savoy will need to take two frames, meaning that Mark Bennett’s likely win will need one of either Colin, Graham, Albert or Ryan to follow suit to take the title.

Fairwater still face a stern test to win the top spot, as a visit to Penarth Road still sees second place on the line. Penarth’s side lost their momentum in the middle order this week against Park, who came back superbly from last week’s defeat to almost hand second spot to Fairwater. A 4-1 win for Penarth Road would give the side a second place for the second season in a row, albeit at a different club.

South Wales will take the wooden spoon now, as Park have moved out of reach, but have still enjoyed four wins in an eighteen game season.

Jason Hewitt just needs to avoid defeat next week to win the rankings title, but a potential first frame shootout against Mark Bennett could decide matters. With one week to go, we are facing the first Premier/Tuesdsay League season without a century since 2002 as Kishan’s 87 still leads the way.
