Taff’s Well B and Savoy both have a slim advantage to take into the second leg of their Malcolm Keenor Trophy semi-finals against Mackintosh and Trecenydd respectively after close 3-2 victories this week.
Having beaten Canton Libs Z in a rearranged fixture 3-1 to win the tie 6-3 on aggregate, Rhys Carpenter ensured Taff’s Well started well with a fine victory over Jason Hewitt, with the match culminating in Tom Cross’s win over Simon Parker to set things up nicely for the second leg.
Savoy went through to the semis due to Taff’s Well A cancelling their rearranged fixture, and look favourites to qualify for the final after their win away to Trecenydd Snooker.
Last year’s Plate winners Mackies Lost Boys continue to defend their title after winning 3-2 in the semi-final first leg against Rumney British Legion to ensure a tense second leg in a few weeks’ time.
Senghenydd overcame Cathays Cons in their rearranged quarter-final 6-3 on aggregate to qualify for the semi-final against Fairwater Cons, and take a 4-1 lead into their second leg after they won some very close frames against Steve Flanagan’s side, who will now need a big performance in the return leg.
