Brian Rees and Jason Hewett have completed a pairs double after they beat Steve Flanagan & Shaun O’Connell 3-0 to win the Cardiff Handicap Pairs title at Fairwater Cons. Following their Open Pairs victory last week, they were looking to become the first pairing to win both competitions since the 2013-14 season when Rowland and Thomas achieved the feat.

The opening frame was an edgy affair as all four players missed chances to leave the score all square with three reds remaining, but Brian Rees took full advantage of an opportunity with a 46 clearance to go 1-0 ahead. He continued this form into the next frame with an inventive plant leading to a superb 60 break before missing a long red, but it was enough to put his side 2-0 up.

The final frame saw his partner Jason Hewett dominate with a 37 break to cancel out the 21-point handicap that Flanagan & O’Connell had, and he followed this up shortly after with a contribution of 31 to go snookers ahead and the concession came to give Rees and Hewett the title.
