Congratulations to Macky Misfits’ Jacob Boyle, after he won the CDSA Shootout at Taff’s Well Ex-Serviceman’s Club in the annual curtain-raiser to the 2024-25 season after beating Taff’s Well Warriors’ Chris Johnson in the final. The tournament saw 16 players battle it out over a series of 10-minute frames with CDSA Competition Secretary Darren Gill overseeing the evening’s proceedings.
Reigning champion Steffan Davies was one of the early victors, but he saw his defence of the title end at the quarter-final stage to Ronnie Allen, while Johnson won the closest frame of the first round as he edged past Mackintosh Sports’ Nathan Dunne.
Boyle overcame Twm Sion Jones in his first match, before beating Geoff Shepherd in the quarter-final, whilst Johnson defeated Luke Shepherd to set up a semi-final against Canton Libs’ Luke Haines, which he won to seal a place in the final. The first ever 50 break in a CDSA Shootout by Boyle in the other semi against Ronnie Allen saw him reach the final, and his excellent form continued with a couple of 20+ breaks to comfortably win the frame and deservedly win the prize money and title of CDSA Shootout Champion.
