CDSA AGM and Presentation Night

The CDSA 2025-26 AGM and Presentation Night (sponsored by Rosetta Sports) recently took place at Canton Liberal Club, with Caerphilly A taking home most of the major prizes after they won the Premier League and Malcolm Keenor Trophy double, whilst captain Ben Griffiths was crowned Cardiff Open Singles champion after he beat Jacob Boyle in the final. Steffan Davies won the Player of the Year title with a 16/17 league record and team-mates Allan Morgan and Nural Khan won the Handicap Singles and Open Plate Singles respectively, with Morgan also recording the highest league break of the season.

Mackintosh Snooker claimed their first major trophy after winning the League Cup and the Taff’s Well duo Rhys Carpenter and Jimmy Llewellyn achieved a rare feat after winning both the Open Pairs and Handicap Pairs titles. Macky Misfits picked up the Division One trophy and Fairwater Cons won the CDSA Plate, with Misfits’ Boyle winning the Snooker Shootout.

The following rule changes were voted on –

– Minimum break to be added to the breaks board to be lowered to 30 from 35.

Passed 7 votes to 3.

– League fees and competition fees to rise to increase revenue.

Passed 6 votes to 4 in favour of increase to £70 rather than £60. Passed 10 votes to 0 to increase competition fees to £5 per player per competition.

– Maximum squad size limit of 10 or 12 players.

Passed 7 votes to 3 for a squad size of 10 rather than 12.

– Semi-finals of competitions to be played at a neutral venue.

Rejected 7 votes to 3.

– Tailored shorts to be added to dress code for finals.

Rejected 6 votes to 4.

– Reduce minimum number of games from 5 to 3 a player needs to have played to compete in semi-finals and final of cup competitions.

Rejected 7 votes to 3.

– Finals to be played at a pre-determined venue at the start of the season.

Rejected 10 votes to 0.

– Ruling on conferring during doubles matches was discussed and clarified, with an understanding that rather than define what ‘a player approaches the table’ means, a reminder was given of etiquette in those situations.

– Discussion regarding the window for finals and whether this will be amended next season due to players this year informing the committee that they were unable to fulfil the fixture on the scheduled date.
