Taff’s Well have pulled clear at the top of Division One after a 4-1 win away to Roath Cons took advantage of title rivals Savoy’s defeat at home to Fairwater Cons Mack by the same scoreline. Ian Purnell got them off to a good start after he beat Rob Reid and Jimmy Llewellyn made it 2-0 with a win over Kerri Whiting. Alan Wright pulled one back after some good long potting to defeat Glyn Jones, but a closely-fought win for Kevin Brown over Andrew Champion and Rob Hayes’ defeat of Lee Cornock sealed the victory.

Mark Bennett won the opener for Savoy after Fairwater captain Ronnie Allen moved himself up the order to face the ex-professional, but wins for Jason Hewett against Lee Greening and Brian Rees over Dave Hurn put the title-chasers ahead. Alan Hurley then made it 3-1 after defeating Colin Lane, before Khurram Khan’s win over Jeff Lane sealed a good night’s work for the Mack.

However, they are still one point behind champions Fairwater Cons who are looking to become the first side to win a hat-trick of titles since the mid-1990s and they started well as Twm Sion Jones defeated James Facey in the opening frame. Ed Topham levelled the match with a win over Terry Garland, but a 55 break from Ben Griffiths against Rory Wigmore restored their lead. Steffan Davies made it 3-1 thanks to a 45 break against Luke Haines, before Shaun O’Connell finished things off after he beat Tony Chick.

Beech Tree Hotel lost 4-1 at Mackintosh Snooker, whilst Cathays Cons moved up to joint-third in the Premier League after a 4-1 away win at Rumney British Legion, but they had to come from behind after Paul Chichester’s win on the black against Dave Earls. Dave Standage’s win over Alex Ellis and Ryan Bowgen’s defeat of Andy Magill gave Cathays a 2-1 lead and Darren Gill made sure of the win after defeating Albert Columbo, but the individual highlight of the week came in the final frame with a 57 break from Jason Summerhayes against Frank Deriu to seal the victory.
