Fairwater Cons Mack have started the defence of their Premier League title in excellent fashion after a 4-1 win away to Mackintosh Snooker saw them move ahead at the top of the table. Jason Hewett and Brian Rees maintained their unbeaten start to the season with wins over Billy Connors and Carlo Schiazza, with Rees registering a 48 break. Jacob Boyle sealed the win for the champions after he beat Craig Bolton, before Khurram Khan made it 4-0 with victory over Mike Nessbert, but Nathan Dunne won a consolation frame for his team after beating Alan Hurley.

Taff’s Well have also started the season well after they inflicted the first defeat on Canton Libs to move into second place. Ian Purnell’s 46 break was enough to defeat James Facey and Rhys Carpenter doubled their lead against Luke Haines, breaking down on 49 when a bigger break looked likely. Declan O’Callaghan pulled one back on the colours against Glyn Jones before one of the frames of the season so far saw Ed Topham beat Kevin Brown to level the match at 2-2. Brown started strongly with a 34 break before Topham hit back and had the chance to win it with two reds remaining. However, he snookered himself on the green but managed to escape and after both players missed the pink, Topham produced one of the finest shots of any season with a sensational cut back on the pink before coming off six cushions and landing perfectly on the black to finish off a high-quality encounter. The deciding frame though, was a much more straightforward affair as Rob Hayes kept up his 100% record with victory over James Wigmore to give Taff’s Well the win.

RBL Warriors are up to third after their 3-2 win at home to Roath Cons, but they had to come from behind after Clive Marsh defeated Chris Johnson in the opening frame. Dave Richards levelled the match after a win against Kerri Whiting, but Andrew Champion restored Roath’s lead after he beat Geoff Sheppard. Simon Takata’s comfortable win over Rob Reid took the match to a decider, and Jason Veal won the match for the Warriors after defeating Lee Cornock in the final frame.

Beech Tree Hotel have moved off the bottom of the table after an emphatic 4-1 win against Rumney British Legion with Dan Bridle leading from the front against Ben Harding. Ciaran Paul made it 2-0 after beating Justin Behnan on the black, before Mike Pardoe sealed the win after he beat Paul Chichester. Glyn Hayes then pulled one back for Rumney with a victory over Ben Bridle, but Dai Rideout finished things off for Beech Tree with a win over Andy Magill.

There were only four fixtures this week after the CDSA are sad to announce that one of their longest-serving teams Savoy from Barry have had to withdraw from the league meaning two teams will have byes for the first half of the season, until the fixtures are redrawn for the reverse set of fixtures. The CDSA wishes Colin Lane and his team the very best for the future and hope they are able to rejoin in the coming years.
