The Tuesday League scorelines showed a little more variety this week, with the first whitewash of the season going to the Mackintosh, who seemed to come out much the better of some close frames against Taff’s Well. But the table is still topped by County Cons, who couldn’t field their first choice line up against Penarth BL, and were therefore delighted to escape with a 4-1 win.
Breaks have started to be reported, with 40 for Gerwyn Davies of Trecenydd, 39 for Sam Thomas of PRSC, a 38 for James Llewellyn, and a 32 and 30 from Kevin Brown in a frame against Neil Tomkins that was very much a frame of two halves. Penarth seem to have found a player in Craig Hall, who did superbly to overturn a big deficit against Luke Haines.
Penarth Road squeezed out Welly, who lost 2-3 for the second week in a row, and in the battle of League and Cup holders, Fairwater again found the odd frame in five to beat Trec, who must have felt they stood a chance when both Kishan and Luke dropped their frames. Savoy almost thrashed the Uni, but there’s no sign as yet of any side that will run away with the title. At least Mack, Fairwater, County, Trec, Savoy and Penarth BL will feel it can go their way, and that they can afford to lose about 6 matches and still finish top. Meanwhile, just how far can Penarth Road go this year?
