Caerphilly A & Fairwater Favourites for Semis

Breaks

Rhys Carpenter 55 (Taff’s Well)
Nural Khan 44 (Caerphilly A)
Rob McKenna 42 (Caerphilly A)
Terry Garland 37 (Fairwater Cons)
Khurram Khan 35 (Caerphilly A)

Caerphilly A and Fairwater Cons are closing in on a semi-spot in the Malcolm Keenor Trophy, as both sides registered 4-1 wins to pull away at the top of Group A and Group B respectively. Caerphilly were away to Rumney British Legion and a 44 break from Nural Khan got them off to a great start against Alex Ellis, before Allan Jones defeated Frank Deriu to make it 2-0. Tony Parkin pulled one back for Rumney after he beat Dave Hartnell, but a 35 break from Khurram Khan was enough to win a close frame against Paul Chichester, before a 42 break from Rob McKenna finished the match off as he defeated Ben Harding.

Fairwater had to come from behind as they travelled to Macky Misfits with Satinder Singh winning the opener against Shaun O’Connell, but Steve Flanagan drew his side level following his win over Bill Bainton. Luke Pitman made it 2-1 after winning on the colours against Steve Wellbeloved, before Jason Hewett’s victory versus Renato Ridolini sealed the win and Terry Garland’s 37 break was enough to defeat Graeme Prance and make it three wins out of three for his side.

Taff’s Well stay in second place in Group A as they beat an under-strength Canton Libs 4-1, as they look to retain the title they won in dramatic fashion last season. Rhys Carpenter is one of the form players in the league and he maintained that momentum with a very good 55 break against Ethan Chichester, missing a long red with a possible century on the cards. Kevon Brown had a walkover in the next against Declan O’Callaghan before a tremendous 22 clearance from Ronnie Allen pulled one back versus Glyn Jones. Jimmy Llewellyn sealed the win for Taff’s Well after overturning an early deficit against James Wigmore to clinch the frame on the colours, before a walkover for Rob Hayes finished off a good night’s work for his team.

Group B is very tight in the race for the second semi-final spot as only three points separate second to fourth, with County Cons holding the advantage despite having a bye week, but Mackintosh Snooker’s 3-2 away win to Roath Cons moved them into contention. Eassa Din won the opening frame against Alan Wright before Craig Bolton doubled the Mack’s lead versus Clive Marsh. Andrew Champion reduced the deficit as he comfortably beat Carlos Schiazza, but Mike Nessbert’s win over Lee Cornock gave his side the victory, before a walkover for Rob Reid in the final frame keeps Roath in touch with the sides above them.
