Cup Semis Line-up Decided

Breaks

Satinder Singh 47 (Macky Misfits)

The line-up for the Malcolm Keenor Trophy semi-finals is decided after the final round of pool matches saw Taff’s Well and Fairwater Cons top the groups, with Caerphilly Cons and Mackintosh Snooker taking second place. Taff’s Well visited Caerphilly A knowing the winner would qualify in first place in Group A, but they found themselves 1-0 down after Owen Fear beat Rob Hayes. Kevin Brown drew his side level after defeating Ben Griffiths, before a win for Tom Cross over Steffan Davies moved Taff’s Well 2-1 ahead. Rhys Carpenter made sure of the win after comfortably beating Dave Hartnell and Jimmy Llewellyn rounded things off with victory against Ian Denton.

Fairwater Cons had already qualified for the semis ahead of their match against County Cons, who needed to match Mackintosh Snooker’s result in order to take second spot. Steve Flanagan won the opening frame against Ryan Bowgen, before Shaun O’Connell won a close frame on the pink versus Darren Gill. Luke Pitman’s win on the colours against John Hicks made it 3-0, before Dave Standage pulled one back for County after beating Dan Bridle, but Jason Hewett sealed victory after defeating Martyn Evans in the final frame to give Fairwater a match-up against Caerphilly A in the last four, whilst County qualify for the CDSA Plate against Canton Libs.

That result meant Mackintosh Snooker had the opportunity to clinch a semi-final spot against Macky Misfits and a 3-2 win means they’ll face Taff’s Well in a repeat of last year’s encounter. Nathan Dunne beat Renato Ridolini in the opener, before a very good 47 break from Satinder Singh against Mike Nessbert made it 1-1. Jacob Boyle put the Misfits ahead after beating Billy Connors, but Harrison Fry’s win over Steve Wellbeloved and Carlos Schiazza’s defeat of Bill Bainton gave the Mack the win.

The CDSA Plate semi-final line-up was completed after Rumney British Legion’s 4-1 win away to Taff’s Well Warriors means a match against the Misfits, with Glyn Hayes beating Simon Takata before Tony Parkin’s win on the black against Mike Watts. Ethan Chichester made it 3-0 after defeating Andy Holman, but Jason Veal pulled one back with a win over Alex Ellis before Paul Chichester beat Chris Johnson in the final frame.

There was also a rearranged League Cup game this week as County Cons moved into third place in the table following an excellent 4-1 win against Caerphilly A, with both sides now facing a wait to see if they qualify for the semi-finals. Mike Rathkey won the opening frame against Rob McKenna, before a 58 break from Nural Khan drew Caerphilly level. Dave Earls then put County ahead after defeating Allan Morgan, and a win in the doubles frame for Earls and Rathkey against McKenna and Khan sealed a very good night’s work for the Cons.
