County in Control in the Cup

Breaks

Ben Griffiths 44 (Caerphilly A)
Nural Khan 44 (Caerphilly A)
Jerry Connors 39, 39 (Macintosh Snooker)
Jacob Boyle 38 (Macky Misfits)

County Cons are top of Group B in the Malcolm Keenor Trophy after a 3-2 win against Mackintosh Snooker maintained their 100% start to the competition as they aim to secure a semi-final spot. They had to come from behind against last season’s runners-up though as a brace of 39 breaks from Jerry Connors versus Mike Rathkey gave the Mack the lead. However, County hit back as wins for John Hicks against Mike Nessbert and Ryan Bowgen over Nathan Dunne saw them establish a 2-1 lead. Dave Standage’s defeat of Eassa Din sealed the win, but Carlo Schiazza’s victory in the final frame against Dave Earls means there’s only one point between them at the top of the table.

Rumney British Legion made an excellent start to the competition after their opening round bye with a 4-1 win over Canton Libs to move into third place in the table. Rob Baker won the opening frame against Luke Haines before Ben Harding made it 2-0 with victory over Ronnie Allen, but Rory Wigmore kept Canton in the match following his defeat of Paul Chichester. However, Rumney wrapped up their win with a victory for Andy Holman versus Tony Chick before Glyn Hayes sealed a great night for Rumney with a win against Ed Topham.

There’s joint leaders of Group A as Canton Warriors and Macky Misfits both have six points from two matches, with the Misfits recording the result of the week to beat Premier League champions Fairwater Cons three frames to two. William Eades got them off to a very good start with a win against Shaun O’Connell before Richard Duggan doubled their lead after beating Twm Sion Jones. Wins for Terry Garland and Dan Bridle against Steve Wellbeloved and Satinder Singh respectively levelled the match at 2-2, but a 38 break from Jacob Boyle saw him defeat Jason Hewett and win the match for the Misfits.

Canton Warriors are level with the Misfits despite losing 3-2 at home to reigning champions Caerphilly A, with Andy Holman edging an excellent opening frame on the black against Steffan Davies. Breaks of 44 from Ben Griffiths against Chris Johnson and Nural Khan versus Dave Richards swung the match in Caerphilly’s favour, but a very good performance from Simon Takata to defeat Ian Denton took the match to a decider, which was convincingly won by Khurram Khan against Mike Watts to seal the victory for Caerphilly.
