The race for a top-4 finish in the League Cup is reaching its conclusion as the penultimate round of matches saw several teams move to the top of the table. In joint-first position are Fairwater Cons and Macky Misfits as they both registered 4-1 wins against Roath Cons and previous league leaders County Cons respectively.

Fairwater had to come from behind as Andrew Champion won the opening frame on the black against Twm Sion Jones, before Dan Bridle levelled the match after beating Rob Reid. Luke Pitman defeated Chris Harding to give Fairwater the lead and Shaun O’Connell and Steve Flanagan won the crucial doubles frame against Lee Cornock and Alan Wright to seal the victory.

Macky Misfits inflicted County Cons’ first defeat of this season’s competition as they slipped to sixth, with Satinder Singh winning the opening frame on the colours against Ryan Bowgen. John Hicks made it 1-1 as he won on the black versus Graeme Prance before Bill Bainton restored the Misfits’ lead after he defeated Suhayb Din. However, with the doubles frame worth two points either side could win the match, but Steve Wellbeloved and Richard Duggan beat Bowgen and Din to complete the 4-1 win for their side.

Rumney British Legion are in third place after they won the doubles frame against Taff’s Well to seal a 3-2 victory after being 2-1 down after the singles frames. Rhys Carpenter gave Taff’s Well the lead after winning the opener against Ethan Chichester, before Justin Jones lost the second to Paul Chichester after going in-off on the black to make it 1-1. Glyn Jones won another close frame as he beat Ben Harding on the black, but the Chichesters teamed up to defeat Kevin Brown and Jimmy Llewellyn on the colours to give Rumney the victory.

Canton Libs are in the final qualifying spot just ahead of Mackintosh Snooker as they won 3-2 to move ahead of them on games won, with the individual performance of the week coming from Luke Haines as he made a 58 break against Billy Connors in the first frame, with a century looking likely at one stage. Rory Wigmore doubled Canton’s lead in the next as he beat Mike Nessbert before Ronnie Allen’s comfortable victory over Nathan Dunne made it 3-0. However, Dunne teamed up with Carlo Schiazza to win the doubles frame versus James Wigmore and Tony Chick and keep his side in contention for a semi-final place.
