The 2026-27 CDSA Premier League season is up-and-running as champions Caerphilly A laid down an early marker with an impressive 3-2 away win to last year’s third-places side Mackintosh Snooker. However, they found themselves 1-0 down after Jerry Connors won the opener against Owen Fear. A 55 break from Rob McKenna saw him defeat Carlos Schiazza to make it 1-1 before Nural Khan’s close win on the colours versus Eassa Din put Caerphilly ahead. Mackintosh captain Mike Nessbert then levelled things for his side after beating Dave Hartnell, but Steffan Davies won the decider against Nathan Dunne on the colours to clinch a very good win for the champions.
*This match has been awarded 5-0 to Mackintosh due to Caerphilly playing a player who wasn’t registered.

Last year’s runners-up Fairwater Cons also endured a tough contest at the hands of new boys Macky Cuesaders as they won 3-2 with a titanic opening frame between Twm Sion Jones and Jacob Boyle, which saw Jones come out on top thanks to a 42 break to give his team the lead. An impressive performance from Rob Baker saw him beat Dan Bridle after an early 29 break was followed by a clearance on the colours to the pink to seal the win. The frame of the night saw newcomer Logan Rawlings take control against Jason Hewett with a 32 break, but the multiple Cardiff Open winner stayed in the frame to take it to the colours. Rawlings sunk green to blue but wobbled a long pink to give Hewett a chance and a tremendous positional shot to the black saw him edge an excellent contest to put Fairwater 2-1 up. Shaun O’Connell’s win over Ronnie Allen made it 3-1, but Clive Marsh reduced the deficit after some very good safety and solid potting saw him defeat Steve Flanaghan.

The result of the week saw the other side making their league debut Market Street A register a resounding 5-0 win at Canton Libs, with Adrian Webber winning a tight first frame against James Wigmore. Alan Cook made it 2-0 after beating Declan O’Callaghan on the colours, before Craig Hellinger sealed the win after defeating Ed Topham, and the whitewash was complete after Paul Stuart-Torrie’s comfortable win over Ian Denton was followed by Colin Harding’s victory against Tony Chick.

Taff’s Well made a good start to their league campaign with a 4-1 home win against Canton Warriors, but Nick Davies won the opener against Justin Jones to give the away side an early lead. Jimmy Llewellyn levelled the match after an early 26 break gave him the lead over Simon Takata and he sealed the win with some very good pots on the last few colours, before Glyn Jones and Chris Johnson played out a closely-fought contest with Jones winning on the colours to give Taff’s Well the lead. A fluent potting display from captain Kevin Brown clinched the win for his side after he comfortably beat Andy Holman, before Rob Hayes completed the victory on the black after a very close frame against Geoff Sheppard.

Macky Misfits also won 4-1 as they defeated County Cons with CDSA legend John Moore making a comeback as he won the opening frame against Darren Gill. Graeme Prance doubled the Misfits’ lead after beating Dave Standage and Richard Duggan’s defeat of Dave Earls sealed the win. Steve Wellbeloved’s victory over Suhayb Din made it 4-0, but Gary Prosser won a consolation frame for County after his win against William Eades.

Rumney British Legion got their season off to a winning start after they won 3-2 at Cathays Sports with captain Paul Chichester beating Andrew Champion in the first frame, before a 30 break from Ben Harding saw him overcome Tony Storer to double their lead. Another newcomer to the CDSA, Carl Galloway, potted the blue and a very good pink to defeat Alan Wright, before Joe Browse pulled one back for Cathays after potting the colours against Richard Wood, and Lee Cornock potted blue and pink to win the final frame for Cathays versus Albert Columbo.
