Three weeks of league fixtures to go, and Savoy will need to take ten points from those games in order to win their first ever Cardiff League title. Having been down there this week, I can report that it sounds as though this means something to the boys from Barry, and they have been unquestionably the strongest side so far this season.
This week, however, saw a rare defeat, only a third of the season, for Colin’s side, while the chasing pack in the form of Penarth and Fairwater did pick up two points on them, thanks to narrow wins. Second place may come down to the match on March 21st between those sides, although County’s win despite being understrength at Savoy, might keep them interested yet. Penarth also know County and Fairwater have yet to meet for the final time, perhaps opening the door if the result is close.
Canton Libs are also making a late, but not unrealistic, push for second, with the only whitewash this week lifting them above Trecenydd. Note how their number of wins is actually equal to that of all but the league leaders. No change in the battle of the Macks, while Park’s win has secured their place, probably, away from bottom spot in the league, though everyone knows South Wales are a dangerous side capable of taking points of any visitors to Tremorfa.
