This week saw another twist in the battle for the Division 1 title, last week Senghenydd were heavy favourites to pick up the title, this week they succumbed to a stubborn Cathays Cons side who beat them 3 -2 to blow the race wide open. Taffs Well couldn’t quite capitalise enough as they beat a determined Canton Libs B side 3 -2 to move to a point of Senghenydd. Canton Libs Z produced the result of the week as they beat Rumney BL 4 – 1 to also move to a point of Senghenydd, helped by a 30 break from Paul Chichester. Other results included Wellington Rileys beating Kiss Shot 3 -2 and Wellington Boot beating Trec Wanderers by the same scoreline. So with one match to go 3 teams are still in with a chance of winning the title, but only 2 realistically can challenge as Canton Libs Z play Taffs Well, the winners of that match know that they must beat Senghenydd’s result to have a sniff of pipping them to the post. If Canton Libs Z win their match then they could be favourites as they have won an extra game over their rivals and if level on points then it will be on most wins first. So as the season draws to an end in what has been a very decent league, with 3 teams in with a shout it is the closest finish to a title race in many a year, certainly in my 3 years in charge, good luck to all concerned, and also may I express my thanks to Kiss Shot who entered the league this year and have contributed so well in both league and cup competitions, hopefully see them back next year.
