The most upside-down week of the Tuesday league so far. The only side amongst the title contenders to win was County Cons, but even they will rue not taking the chance to dismiss Fairwater from the chase once and for all. County led 3-0 but did not finish the job, and so are only three points clear at the top.
Trec were given the bonus of a Penarth Legion side with only four players, but didn’t take advantage, and the most dangerous side in the league which is not challenging for the title won 2-3 (their seventh in a row), despite conceding the last frame.
Mackintosh had a weakened side against Savoy, and the Barry Boys duly took their chance. Pairing Mark against Spence (again) paid off, and Savoy, like County, led 3-0 but didn’t quite translate that into a win that could have done more damage to the champions’ hopes of retaining their title.
Elsewhere, Uni were soundly beaten by the improving side at Penarth Road. Special mention, apparently, for Rupert, who nearly made a break of more than 30 (!)
Six games to go for most teams, and it doesn’t get any easier to pick a winner. If Penarth Legion were to win 5-0 next week, could they too make a late dash for the top spot?
