Tuesday League secretary’s season review

Fairwater Cons picking up the Tuesday League trophy two seasons ago

Fairwater, so long nailed on favourites for the Tuesday League title, survived a late season wobble, and, credit to them, went to their rivals and won it the hard way. Kishan, Luke Pittman and Twm held their nerve, and took the title back to Fairwater after last year’s drop to second place. They won fewer games that the Mack, and fifth-placed Savoy, but won by wider margins, and that was enough for a 3 point triumph.

Mack’s record of wins was enough to lift them above Trec in the race for second place, as Trec won 4-1 over Potters Bar. That final frame played last night against Potters Bar, or perhaps Wicksy’s frame against Rob at County last week, means there is no trophy for Trec … unless they can prevent the Double next week with a win over Fairwater at Penarth Legion.

Penarth Road will go into their Plate Final against Savoy, at the same venue, full of confidence, having won 4-1 against the Legion last night, marking the event with a clear winner for result of the season, as ten-year-old Alfie Davies (son of Anthony) showed there’s more than just potential in him with a win over Neil Tomkins.

Meanwhile, Savoy also go to that match with confidence, after beating University 3-2.

Kishan Hirani made it a Fairwater double with the highest break prize with his 109 from a few weeks ago, and the only ton of the Tuesday League season.

Thanks for a good season, very well contested, with six sides still in contention for the title with as many weeks left. Four took it to the penultimate week, and two to the final match. Can’t argue with that.
