Mackintosh produced one of the results of the season this week with a 5-0 win over league leaders Fairwater Cons to blow the Premier League title race wide open.

It had looked as if Fairwater were pulling away, but this result means there is now only three points separating the top three sides in the league. The first frame was very tight with Jason Hewitt beating Twm Jones on the black, which was followed up with Alan Hurley’s win against Steffan Davies. Clive Marsh sealed the victory with a close win over Terry Garland, and Khurram Khan made it 4-0 after beating Steve Flanagan. Mackintosh captain Ronnie Allen completed the whitewash in style with a win against in-form Luke Pitman to take his side to the summit of the Premier League with only six matches remaining.

However, the result also meant that champions Savoy are now only two points behind Fairwater and three off the lead after they beat Canton Libs B 3-2, and with only one game left against a Premier League side they will fancy their chances of timing their run perfectly and retaining their title.

Taff’s Well took full advantage of that defeat for Canton after they won 5-0 at Llandaff Warriors, with Nick Jones recording the highest break of the week with a 48 to climb above James Wigmore’s side at the foot of the table.

Cathays Cons are heading in the wrong direction after back-to-back defeats has left them looking behind them as they lost 3-2 at Division One leaders Canton Libs Z, who are now six points clear after Senghenydd’s 4-1 home defeat to Trecenydd Snooker who move level in second place, whilst Rumney British Legion won an entertaining match 3-2 against Cuesaders.
