Taffs Well maintain lead with close win over Canton Libs B

Taffs Well maintain their 4pt lead at the top of Division One after beating a brave Canton Libs B side 3 – 2.

The match threatened to be a one sided affair as Taffs Well built up a 3 – 0 lead thanks to a 42 break from Kevin Jones in the opening frame, however wins from James Wigmore and Dan Peacey limited the damage. Senghenydd bounced back this week after 2 consecutive home losses with a closely fought 3 – 2 win against struggling Cathays Cons. New captain Dave Standage picked up another win to be 6 out of 6. John Palkowski picked up another win to also be 6 out of 6.

Canton Libs Z moved up to 3rd place with a black ball decider to win 3 – 2. Dave Bowgen from Rumney BL knocked in a 40 break for the losing side. However the best match in terms of quality was to be seen up at Kiss Shot as the home team went break mad as Russell Hall made a 38 break and Steve Davies and Paul Thomas both picked up 35 breaks, however it was not enough as Wellington Rileys won in the deciding frame thanks to Shane Virgin’s close frame. Finally Wellington Boot has gained some big points to be in the race for the midfield positions after they beat Trec Wanderers 4 – 1, this included another win for Keith Jenkins who maintained his 100% record. We have now reached a third of the way through the season and at this point there is not much to go on apart from the usual suspects being at the top of the league but are not running away with it at the moment but the midfield battle this year looks to be intriguing because everyone is beating everyone else which means that there are several teams jostling for position to have a crack at the top 2.
