Savoy clinch the Premier League

And so the Premier League ends with what we are told by Graham Bailey was a first win of the title in about 37 years! Well done Savoy, probably not the strongest squad in the league on paper, but they stuck with five regular players, who did the job week in, week out, and whose opening half of the season was enough to protect against any late wobbles or comebacks.

Canton Libs finished the season strongly, much thanks to Ralph Welch’s run of victories, and nearly sneaked fourth place, passing Trecenydd quite late in the year. One point kept Penarth Road from second place, and they will think of absentees who missed games this year who might have made an impact, including Sam, who we hope has had success overseas while missing the second-place decider.

One point also separated the Mack A and Mack B sides – the name is up for grabs next year, based on performances, while Jason Hewett somehow cut in a ridiculous black to beat Graham Bailey in his final match, and seal the rankings win, ahead of Mark Bennett.

One nice note to finish on – a former winner of the rankings, who has endured a tough season, whining about how little he is playing, won his final match to end the season with a slight return of the old Symmons smile!
