Savoy are out on their own at the top of the Premier League after a 3-2 win against Canton Libs B gave them their 11th straight victory, to edge one point clear of Taff’s Well B who defeated Taff’s Well A 3-2 in a closely-fought derby.

Cuesaders backed up their excellent victory against Taff’s Well B last week to win 3-2 at Senghenydd, who now slip to third place. The Llandaff side are joined in 4th place by Canton Libs A who whitewashed Mackies Lost Boys 5-0 to get back to winning ways.

Canton Libs Z took advantage of a four-man Mack side to win 3-2, but they’ve lost ground on the Division One leaders Cathays Cons who beat Rumney British Legion 5-0 to extend their lead to three points in the race for promotion.

The closeness of the league this year is evident as we reach the halfway stage with everyone now having played 12 matches. There are only seven points separating the top six teams in the Premier League, and despite recent defeats last year’s top two Canton Libs A and Mackintosh are not out of the running and will be looking to put a winning run together to close the gap on the leaders. Taff’s Well A have it all to do to avoid finishing bottom and being relegated to Division One, but they have the players to put a run together that will close the gap on those above them.

Division One looks like a three-way battle with only six points separating leaders Cathays Cons and third-placed Canton Libs B, whilst Canton Libs Z in second look likely to push all the way for the title and promotion to the Premier League.

It looks set for an exciting second half to the season, with Savoy and Cathays Cons determined not to give up their leads at the top!
