Fairwater Cons struck a huge blow in the battle for the title this week after they defeated Rumney British Legion 5-0, whilst their rivals Mackintosh went down 3-2 at Taff’s Well.

Their lead at the top had been cut to a single point, but they increased that to five points with only seven league matches remaining after wins for Ben Griffiths, Terry Garland, Steffan Davies, Luke Pitman and Steve Flanagan.

Taff’s Well moved to within a point from safety in the Premier League after they beat Mackintosh 3-2 in a match that was largely decided in the third frame after they had shared the first two, with Brian Rees beating Khurram Khan on the black. The next two were also shared after wins for Kevin Brown and Alan Hurley, whose 60 break was the highest of the week.

Savoy reminded everyone that the title run-in is not just a two-horse race after a 5-0 win at Cathays Cons, with Sam Thomas maintaining his 100% individual record, although Jasper Richards’ side may feel the scoreline wasn’t a fair reflection of the match after losing a few very close frames.

The race for Division One has suddenly become much tighter after Cuesaders beat leaders Canton Libs Z to leave only seven points between first and fourth place. Senghenydd registered a 3-2 win at Canton Libs B with wins for Dan Bridle, Dai Sherman and Carl Dimond to take advantage of Canton Libs Z’s defeat, whilst Trecenydd Snooker remain in third place despite a 3-2 home defeat to Llandaff Warriors.
