Fairwater Cons have begun their defence of the CDSA Premier League with a 5-0 victory at home to RBL Warriors, with a 49 from captain Steve Flanagan being the individual highlight. The Warriors had a chance to win the first with Jason Veal building a lead, but a 36 from Ben Griffiths sealed the frame and set the champions up for an opening day win.

Last year’s runners-up Mackintosh have strengthened their squad and will be looking to regain the title, and started with an impressive 4-1 win over Trecenydd Snooker, with last season’s Player of the Year Jason Hewett beginning where he left off with a 45 break to win the first frame. Three more frame followed to establish a 4-0 lead but a win for Mike Pardoe against Clive Marsh clinched a consolation frame for Chris Garwood’s side.

Cathays Cons raced into a 3-0 lead away to Taff’s Well A thanks to black ball wins for Mike Rathkey and Dave Earls before won the third to win the match, but Tom Cross and Rob Hayes won the last two frames to make the scoreline 3-2 to Cathays.

Rumney British Legion almost produced the result of the night after taking Savoy to a last frame decider with wins for Tony Parkins and Glyn Hayes, but Geoff Shephard won the match for Savoy with victory over Ben Harding.

New boys Mackintosh Snooker’s match against Cuesaders Z also went to a deciding frame but captain Graeme Prance won the last against Roy Lawrence to win 3-2, whilst Canton Libs had a walkover after Taff’s Well B were unable to fulfil the fixture.
