Mackintosh Sports have lost their unbeaten record this season after a shock 4-1 loss away to Taff’s Well. Nick Jones got the home side off to a superb start after defeating reigning Cardiff Open champion Jason Hewett with some excellent potting and solid matchplay, before Rhys Carpenter doubled their lead with a comfortable win over in-form Alan Hurley. The win was sealed after a clearance on the colours by Jimmy Llewellyn was enough to beat Clive Marsh, but captain Ronnie Allen pulled one back with some excellent potting to beat Tom Cross on the pink to make it 3-1. Kevin Brown then showed why he is second in the individual rankings after victory over Khurram Khan to finish off a great night for his side to move into fourth in the table.

Canton Libs showed why the title run-in is going to be a three-horse race after thrashing Savoy 5-0 to maintain their unbeaten record and move above Mackintosh into second place in the table. Declan O’Callaghan became the first player this season to defeat Mark Bennett to give them the early lead, before Ed Topham’s dominant display against Colin Lane put them 2-0 up. Rory Wigmore then defeated Geoff Sheppard to make it 3-0, with in-form Luke Haines comfortably beating Jeff Lane and with Savoy not having a fifth player to take on James Wigmore, Canton were able to take a maximum six points ahead of their crunch rearranged fixture against Mackintosh Sports next week.

However, they are all chasing Fairwater Cons after another impressive display at home to Cathays Cons saw the champions record a 4-1 win. Twm Sion Jones dominated the first with a couple of twenty breaks to beat Mike Rathkey and Steffan Davies made it 2-0 on the green against Johnny Davies. Terry Garland made sure of the victory with some solid matchplay against Darren Gill, but Cathays pulled one back with Dave Standage continuing his excellent season after beating Steve Flanagan. The final frame saw Ben Griffiths get back to winning ways and reinforce his position at the top of the rankings with victory over Dave Earls to give Fairwater a 4-1 win.

Mackintosh Snooker’s good run of form continued after a 4-1 win away to RBL Warriors with wins for Mike Nessbert and Craig Bolton against Chris Johnson and Ken Linsey respectively in the opening two frames of the night. Jason Veal pulled one back for the Warriors after defeating Nathan Dunne, but a win for Carlos Schiazza against Nick Davis sealed the win for Mackintosh. The final frame saw the individual highlight of the week with Jerry Connors making breaks of 52 and 32 to beat Syed Moshin Kazmi to seal a great night for Mike Nessbert’s side. The closest match of the week took place at Rumney British Legion after Trecenydd Snooker had to recover from 2-0 down to win with wins for Carl Dimond, Lee Loftus and Dai Rideout after Dan Bridle and Mike Pardoe had lost the opening two frames.
