The second round of matches in the Malcolm Keenor Trophy took place this week and Rumney British Legion have taken control of Group A after a 4-1 win against Mackintosh Snooker. Alex Ellis won the opening frame against Billy Connors, before Andy Magill’s victory over Mike Nessbert put them 2-0 up. Tony Parkin sealed the win after he defeated Craig Bolton, before Carlos Schiazza pulled one back against Paul Chichester, but Justin Behnan finished things off with a win over Nathan Dunne.

Beech Tree Hotel have changed venue to Caerphilly Cons and they bounced back from an opening match defeat to beat Canton Libs 4-1 and move into second place. New signing Allan Morgan won the first frame against Andrew Wigmore, before Luke Haines levelled things after defeating Ben Bridle. Ciaran Paul maintained his good form after beating James Wigmore and Dan Bridle sealed the win against Tony Chick, before a walkover win for Dai Rideout completed the victory.

In Group B, Taff’s Well are the leaders after a closely-fought 3-2 win over RBL Warriors with Rob Hayes winning the opener against Nick Davies, but Jason Veal hit back to level the match after he beat Ian Purnell. Luke Sheppard then put the Warriors ahead following his victory over Glyn Jones, but Kevin Brown’s close win against Mike Watts took the match to a deciding frame and Rhys Carpenter sealed the points after he beat Dave Richards.

Reigning holders Fairwater Cons Mack had to work hard to overcome Roath Cons 3-2 and move into second place, with Khurram Khan getting them off to a good start with a win against Phil Storer. Ronnie Allen doubled their lead after defeating Andrew Champion, before the individual highlight of the week saw Alan Hurley register a 82 break against Rob Reid to put the Mack 3-0 ahead. The frame of the night saw Jason Hewett’s 35 clearance take his frame against Lee Cornock to a respotted black, but a full-length double into the yellow pocket from Cornock pulled one back for Roath, and they rounded off the night on a high after Clive Marsh’s win over Brian Rees in the final frame.
