County and Cathays crowned champions

Congratulations to County Cons and Cathays Cons for winning the Premier League and Division One titles respectively.

The final week of the Premier League was full of drama as Trecenydd produced a stunning performance to beat Savoy 3-2 after trailing 2-0. The game had been played on Tuesday due to a committee request, and the result meant County knew a win against Mackintosh would be enough for the title. Savoy’s defeat also opened the door to Canton Libs A as they knew a 4-1 win would win the league for them if County slipped up, and duly beat Park Cons by that scoreline. So it was left to last year’s runners-up County to hold their nerve, with Kevin Brown potting the crucial black in the 4th frame to seal the victory they needed. They also won the last frame to win 4-1 and clinch a first ever league title by two points.

In Division One, Cathays Cons needed only one frame to be crowned champions, but they ended the season in style by defeating Canton Libs B 4-1, to finish 4 points clear of Canton Libs Z who pushed them all the way whitewashing Rumney 5-0. It was an exciting night to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable season, which reaches a climax over the next month with the finals of the cups and individual competitions. Well done once again to County Cons the 2015 Premier League champions, and Cathays Cons, the 2015 Division One winners!
