Savoy have added the Malcolm Keenor Trophy to their Premier League title after a 3-0 victory over Taff’s Well B in the final this week.

Sam Thomas was first up for the Barry side against Taff’s Well’s captain Tom Cross, with each player producing a high standard of tactical play that ensured a tight opening frame. Both players knew the importance of winning the first frame and had opportunities, but neither could fully capitalise to give their team the early advantage and it went to the colours with Thomas edging it and putting Savoy 1-0 up.

Alan Morgan was up next against Kevin Brown with both players having half-chances early on, before Morgan produced some great positional shots to open up the balls and threaten a century before breaking down on 53. Brown had a chance to hit back but it wasn’t enough to prevent Morgan from winning the frame and leaving Savoy one frame from victory at 2-0.

Mark Bennett started the third frame very strongly to open up a 30-point lead over James Llewellyn, who hit back with a couple of contributions to ensure the frame remained close. Both sides knew how important it was as a win for Llewellyn would get Taff’s Well right back in the match and give them an opportunity to take the final to a deciding frame. However, the crucial moment came with one red left when Bennett laid a snooker which was missed with a swerve shot, unfortunately leaving a free ball. The resulting few pots left Bennett 25 ahead on the green, but Llewellyn potted it and then later the brown before having a chance at a long blue with pink and black on. He jawed it though and Bennett made no mistake in finishing the frame and sealing the match for Savoy 3-0 and with it the Premier League and Malcolm Keenor Trophy double!
