Alan Hurley produced the individual performance of the week in the Cardiff and District Snooker League with a 72 break for Mackintosh Sports as they beat Cuesaders 4-1 to remain unbeaten after six matches. Mackintosh’s very strong top three of Hurley, Jason Hewitt and Brian Rees all won to put Mackintosh 3-0 ahead, with Rees registering a 49 break to continue his 100% record, before Ronnie Allen made it 4-0 with victory over Bill Bainton. However, they were denied the whitewash by Dave Reynolds whose debut season in the league continues to impress as he defeated Clive Marsh to make the scoreline 4-1.

Fairwater Cons continue to set the pace at the top of the table as they registered a win against Rumney British Legion, but they had to work hard against a side whose points total so far this season doesn’t reflect their performances. Twm Sion Jones opened up with a comfortable win over Albert Columbo, but Justin Behnan levelled things up with an excellent clearance from green to pink to win the frame. The champions were in trouble in the next as Ben Harding built a strong lead over Steffan Davies and the blue would have sealed it, but he went in-off to leave Davies the chance to clear and he made no mistake to make it 2-1. Rumney were ahead in the next as Anthony Parking was 20 points up on Shaun O’Connell but the Fairwater stalwart cleared to the blue to seal the win, with Ben Griffiths finishing things off against Glyn Hayes to make it 4-1.

Canton Libs have reinforced their line-up this year and look likely to make sure the title race is a three-horse race after an impressive 3-2 win away to Taff’s Well. Canton started strongly with wins on the colours for Ed Topham and Declan O’Callaghan against Nick Jones and Rhys Carpenter respectively to go 2-0 up, but an impressive performance from Tom Cross against Rory Wigmore started the comeback for Kevin Brown’s side, and it was he who levelled things by comfortably beating Luke Haines to maintain his 100% start to the season. A competitive match then went to a decider with Rob Hayes facing James Wigmore in a scrappy encounter, with a fluke on the brown for Canton’s captain helping to win the match 3-2.

Cathays Cons are fourth in the table after a 4-1 win over RBL Warriors with Dan Jones winning the opening frame against Jason Veal, but the Warriors hit back in the next with Ken Linsey beating Dave Earls. Dave Standage then proved too strong for Chris Johnson to make it 2-1, before Martyn Evans beat Nick Davies to register the win and Darren Gill sealed a good night’s work with victory over Syed Moshin Kazmi in the final frame.

Savoy are back to winning ways after a difficult start to the season after a 3-2 win over Mackintosh Snooker, who have now lost four matches by the odd frame showing their performances aren’t reflected in their position in the table. Mark Bennett started the match in style with breaks of 56 and 38 to defeat Deepak Singh, before Mackintosh hit back to level things at 1-1. Ryan Rowlands then reinstated Savoy’s lead before Colin Lane beat Michael Nessbert to make it 3-1, with Nathan Dunne winning the last against David Hurn for Mackintosh.
