Fairwater Cons Mack are top of the Premier League after an emphatic 5-0 win over Taff’s Well helped them take full advantage of a bye week for their title rivals Fairwater Cons. Their outstanding trio of Jason Hewett, Alan Hurley and Brian Rees gave them the platform for maximum points with Hewett starting the evening with a superb 72 break although a simple missed red denied him the opportunity of a potential century. Hurley’s 38 break finished the frame off against Jimmy Llewellyn to make it 2-0 before Rees defeated Glyn Jones to seal the win. The longest frame of the night came next as Khurram Khan won a tight encounter against Kevin Brown, before several fouls and misses cost Rob Hayes as he lost to Ronnie Allen to complete an excellent win.

Canton Libs’s 3-2 away win at Savoy helps to cement their place in the top three, although the result could have gone either way. Mark Bennett won the opener on the blue against Ed Topham, but unbeaten Declan O’Callaghan levelled the match with a close win over Lee Greening. James Facey comfortably won against Colin Lane to put his side 2-1 ahead, before Luke Haines potted the black to beat Dave Hurn but followed the white in to hand his opponent the frame and take the match to a decider, which was won by James Wigmore against Jeff Lane to give Canton the victory.

Cathays Cons’ very good start to the season continued as they won 4-1 away to Roath Cons, with wins for Dave Earls against Tony Storer and Dan Jones against Kerri Whiting putting them 2-0 up, before Dave Standage made it 3-0 after he overcame Phil Storer. Two new signings finished the match for Cathays with a 43 break for Jason Summerhayes against Andrew Champion being the highlight of the night, but Lee Cornock won a consolation frame against Ryan Bowgen in the final frame of the match.

Beech Tree Hotel beat RBL Warriors 4-1 and that scoreline was matched by Mackintosh Snooker as they defeated Rumney British Legion. Billy Connors won the opening frame against Paul Chichester before Carlos Schiazza made it 2-0 after defeating Tony Parkin. Captain Mike Nessbert won the next against Alex Ellis to give his side the victory before Nathan Dunne made it 4-0 with a win over previously unbeaten Andy Magill, although Rumney managed to win the last frame after Glyn Hayes won a close one against Satinder Singh.
