Fairwater Cons Mack have one hand on the Premier League trophy after a 4-1 win against Mackintosh Snooker leaves them needing four points from their remaining two matches to retain their title. Jason Hewett moved to within one win of retaining his Player of the Year crown after an excellent 78 break got his side off to a winning start against Nathan Dunne. The frame of the night saw Carlos Schiazza look like levelling things up after a 39 break saw him establish a big lead over Alan Hurley, but a 37 clearance saw Hurley double Fairwater’s lead in dramatic fashion. Billy Connors pulled one back for Mackintosh after beating Brian Rees on the black, but wins for Khurram Khan over Eassa Din and Ronnie Allen versus Mike Nessbert saw the champions move closer to the title.

The only team that can deny them is Fairwater Cons after a very good 4-1 win against RBL Warriors saw them stay in touch at the top. Steffan Davies won the opening frame against Simon Takata, before breaks of 39 and 38 saw Rob McKenna win a crucial frame versus in-form Nural Khan. Terry Garland sealed the victory after defeating Mike Watts, and Twm Sion Jones’ win over Dave Richards made it 4-0, before Chris Johnson won a consolation frame against Steve Flanagan.

Taff’s Well lost ground on the top two after losing a closely-contested match 4-1 away to Canton Libs, although Rhys Carpenter had got them off to a good start with a win against Luke Haines which included a 36 break. James Facey levelled the match after beating Tom Cross, before James Wigmore put his side ahead after defeating Glyn Jones. Ed Topham edged the next against Kevin Brown to make it 3-1 and a very good comeback on the colours by Tony Chick saw him win on the black against Rob Hayes to complete a good night’s work for Canton.

The race for the Division One title is wide open after Caerphilly Cons failed to take advantage of Mackintosh Snooker’s defeat, losing 3-2 to Rumney British Legion. Paul Chichester won the opener against Dan Bridle and Justin Behnan doubled their lead after defeating Mike Pardoe. Ciaran Paul’s win over Alex Ellis and Dai Rideout’s defeat of Tony Parkin took the match to a decider, but Andy Magill clinched the match for Rumney with a win against Ieuan Simms.

Roath Cons completed a league double against The Cons with an excellent 4-1 win, with Alan Wright winning against Mike Rathkey in the opening frame, and Phil Storer making it 2-0 after he beat Dave Earls. A 36 break from Clive Marsh against Martyn Evans sealed the victory, and Andrew Champion’s defeat of Dave Standage made it 4-0, before Darren Gill won a consolation frame against Lee Cornock to keep his side within striking distance of the Division One leaders.
