The first leg of the cup semi-finals saw home advantage prove decisive as all four sides registered a win, with reigning Malcolm Keenor Trophy champions Fairwater Cons Mack winning 4-1 against Rumney British Legion to take a big advantage into their home leg at the end of the month. Alan Hurley won a close opening frame against Justin Behnan, before Jason Hewett comfortably beat Alan Groves to make it 2-0. Brian Rees then won a closely-fought frame versus Graeme Prance, before the individual highlight of the evening saw Fairwater captain Ronnie Allen register a fine 65 break in defeating Paul Chichester. With a whitewash looking likely, Alex Ellis hit back for Rumney by winning a consolation frame against Khurram Khan to give themselves a chance heading into the second leg.

The other semi-final was a very good encounter between Mackintosh Snooker and Taff’s Well, with the away side taking a 2-0 lead after Rhys Carpenter beat Eassa Din and Rob Hayes defeated Mike Nessbert. The third frame proved crucial as Glyn Jones built a big lead early on, but Nathan Dunne fought back to win a very close frame and reduce the deficit. Billy Connors then beat Ian Purnell to level the match, before Craig Bolton’s win over Kevin Brown completed the comeback for Mackintosh and gives them a lead going into the return leg.

In the CDSA Plate, RBL Warriors are favourites to reach the final following a 4-1 win against The Cons, with Jason Veal winning the opening frame against Darren Gill. Geoff Sheppard doubled their lead after beating Dave Standage on the black, before Dave Earls pulled one back after his win against Chris Johnson. Nural Khan’s win over Martyn Evans put his side 3-1 ahead and Luke Sheppard finished off a good night’s work for the Warriors after defeating Dan Wardle.

Fairwater Cons’ match against Caerphilly Cons is balanced on a knife-edge after a close 3-2 win for Steffan Davies’ side. Shaun O’Connell put them 1-0 ahead with a win against Dai Rideout in the opener, but Mike Pardoe levelled the match after beating Twm Sion Jones. Ieuan Simms restored Caerphilly’s lead after beating Steve Flanagan, and Rob McKenna made it 3-1 after he defeated Dan Bridle, with Ciaran Paul beating Fairwater captain Davies in the final frame of the night to set up a potentially very exciting second leg.
