Competitions Update

The individual competitions in the CDSA have reached the semi-finals, so let’s take a look at what is happening in the singles and pairs events as we head towards the final stages of the season.

Cardiff Open Singles

Steffan Davies v Ryan Bowgen
Terry Garland v Khurram Khan

There will be a new name on the Cardiff Open trophy after reigning champion Jason Hewett was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Steffan Davies, who faces The Cons’ Ryan Bowgen for a place in the final, whilst last year’s runner-up Khurram Khan will play Fairwater Cons’ Terry Garland.

Cardiff Handicap Singles

Jason Hewett v Luke Haines
Rory Wigmore v Nural Khan

Jason Hewett is looking to retain the Handicap Singles title and will face 2022’s semi-finalist Luke Haines from Canton Libs, whilst Haines’ team-mate Rory Wigmore will be up against RBL Warriors’ Nural Khan for place in the final.

Cardiff Open Pairs

Khurram Khan/Nural Khan v Terry Garland/Twm Sion Jones
Jason Hewett/Brian Rees v Luke Haines/Ed Topham

Jason Hewett and Brian Rees are looking to make it a hat-trick of Open Pairs titles and they’re up against Luke Haines and Ed Topham who they beat in the 2022 final. Looking to meet them in the final are Khurram Khan and Nural Khan who are up against the 2022 Handicap Pairs winners Terry Garland and Twm Sion Jones.

Cardiff Handicap Pairs

Geoff Sheppard/Sam Thomas v Graeme Prance/Paul Chichester
Khurram Khan/Nural Khan v Brian Rees/Jason Hewett

Geoff Sheppard and Sam Thomas are looking to secure a place in the final when they face Rumney British Legion’s Graeme Prance and Paul Chichester, whilst last year’s winners Jason Hewett and Brian Rees will play Khurram Khan and Nural Khan.

Cardiff Open Plate

Glyn Jones v Ronnie Allen or Albert Columbo
Rhys Carpenter v Ben Griffiths

The inaugural Open Plate has Taff’s Well’s Glyn Jones as the first player to secure a place in the semi-finals, where he will face Ronnie Allen or Albert Columbo. The other semi-final will see 2019 Cardiff Open champion Rhys Carpenter face 2020 Cardiff Handicap Singles winner Ben Griffiths.
